2014 Deadlift Video Challenge (500+600 Max Reps)

Post by Adrian Kimmett » Mon Feb 24, 2014 4:53 pm

This was done back in late 2010 early 2011 with just the 500 category so we thought it was time for a 2014 version since those who participated last time can probably do a lot better now and there are probably several guys who can join in now who didn't back then and new members who weren't around who might like to give it go too.

We are doing two categories this time 500 lbs and 600 lbs. You can do just one or both.

Both are for maximum reps within 2 min anyway you can get them done. Meaning straps, suits, belts, briefs are all allowed but not mandatory (we will acknowledge those who complete it RAW or Geared in the final results but it won't affect your overall standing). Hitching is allowed, touch and go bouncing reps are allowed. It just has to go from floor to full lockout on every rep and Bumper plates won't be allowed if you are doing bouncing reps, you must use steel Olympic plates. If you can only use Bumper plates for some reason (Crossfit gym) you must either do deadstop reps or a VERY controlled touch.

If you want to take a break during the two minute time limit to walk around or stretch or have a drink or whatever feel free, when two minutes is up you are done.

Anyone who is participating has until May 20th to post VIDEO results. It must be ONE continuous shot with you and the weights you are lifting remaining in the shot at all times and you must clearly show the weights on the bar before starting your attempt.

You don't have to be an Ontario resident to participate, this is open to all comers, just be or become a forum member and post your video results according to the rules outlined here.

That's it guys, hopefully we will get a lot of participants. So far myself, Lance, Dallas, and TDulmage have said they are in. The forum has been slow lately so probably a lot of guys not checking here as often so maybe those that are can link this thread on their FB profiles to get the word out.

If there are women who want to get in on this let us now and we will open up 250-350 categories.

Alright, so I didn't follow all of the rules exactly, but yesterday was my heavy bench day and coincided perfectly with the challenge, so I did it anyway. Next time I attempt I will try to be a good boy and follow all the rules properly, even though I don't see the point in cheating on the challenge; the only person you are cheating is yourself.

I just did it, because it worked perfectly into my schedule for yesterday. I was disappointed for several reasons, but first and foremost I would appreciate any other critique that could help me since I do intend to do better before the challenge is done in 2 months.

600 was done first. I knew I could get at least one, which looked really ugly today. I was very surprised that the grip on my pronated hand gave out. I have been having some forearm tightness and wrist pain that may have contributed to that. I still managed to set the weight down, but you may notice that it was hanging from the tips of my fingers on my left hand by that point. I reset and attempted another rep switching grip around. Reviewing it I saw how fast it got past my knees and wish I knew that, because I would have finished that lockout just for the sake of that. But once again my pronated grip gave up around my knees and I was losing it too much and had to set it down. The biggest lesson learned watching this was that I need to work on my lockout BIG TIME!

500 - looking back I probably should do this on a separate day next time I attempt to all out rep attempts lol. Once again it was blatantly apparent that my lock out needs work. I think I need to work on my form in general and sit back more to get my shoulders aligned with the bar before pulling. This one I was really disappointed in, because a year ago at the supershow I did 7 reps with an axle and I only got 6 reps here. Also I am pretty sure I have done 8 or more reps in training since last year, I will have to check back through my logs.

Thanks guys.

Here's 606x8 dead stop reps with straps form London's Strongest Man 2013. Looking to improve on this by the deadline.

I'll be giving 500 a run tonight, so I will follow suit and do full stop reps I guess.

Nice work Ben, we'll accept your late submission. So we ended up having a tie for the 600 title between Lance and BenT with 8 reps each and Majik took the 500 division with his 8 reps. Good job guys. Sorry I didn't get my vids in but as most of you know I've been dealing with a back injury for the last two months so was unable to do the challenge unfortunately for me and LUCKILY for all of you cause you KNOW I would have won. Surprised we didn't get more submissions this year after it being such a success in the past. Next time we'll have to have someone else start the thread maybe so people take it more seriously lol.
