Re: Strongman/Powerlifter-friendly gyms
Thanks Robert. (incidentally, I need to update our site as the gas station in now Petro Can)
Moose78,
We are in Huntsville.
We don't operate a typical 'open gym', so we aren't there all day... give me a call or shoot me an email (contact info on website) and we can arrange a time to meet.
Cheers, D.

Re: Strongman/Powerlifter-friendly gyms
In my endless effort to find cheap weights on craigslist or kijiji, I came across a "fitness" club in toronto's east end.
http://www.fortisfitness.ca/index.html
A really late update but, two Olympic platforms, a deadlift platform with band hooks, a bunch of power racks, enough iron to sink a cruise ship, speciality bars like a football bar and a safety squat bar, dragging sled, prowler, and I have my log, farmers, and sandbag there. Due to space and noise complaints no tires or stones... yet.

Looking for a good place to train in Sudbury.
Tried to find the "Sudbury Powerlifting Club" but to no avail.
Anyone? Thanks

Re: Strongman/Powerlifter-friendly gyms
There are a couple of guys training in Sudbury. Try starting a post called "Sudbury gyms?" or something similar -- hopefully one of them will spot it.
Here's a trainer based there as well:

Evolution Health Club
355 Elmira Road North
Guelph, Ontario
(519) 823-0015
Chalk, grunt, yell, swear, drop weights, is closer to a motto at this place than it is to being forbidden.
Olympic Platform, Bumper Plates (including 4 100lb plates), 150lb db's, they even have a glute ham raise.
I also have a small, but growing stash of my own strongman equipment there (log, axle, 2.5" fat db, farms, and a prowler), stones are next.

Crossfit Kitchener
543 Mill St. Unit 6
Kitchener
(519) 208-7240
This gym is full of open space, sleds, prowlers, bumper plates, bands and glute hams. They also have some small stones (Up to 185) and farmers.
Biggest plus to the gym is the attitude of the owners and members, great place to train hard!
Highly recommended!

Is this place still around?Pauly D wrote:Fitness Zone on 4th ave in Niagara Falls (905-356-3743) is letting me bring in any implements I want for training. I'm pretty much the only one that uses any of them, but I have brought in farmers walk implements, a pontiac sunbird (slowly being stripped of parts) for wheelbarrel and dead lift training, 2 pulling harnesses, a 750lb tire, and eventually a couple atlas stones if I ever get around to making them. I also have an empty red cylindae for making a log, but again, no time to do anyhting with it just yet.
Also any recommendations on good gyms in the St. Catharines/Niagara region?

Looks like they've moved:
Google Place Page
Derek Randall used to have a gym in Niagara Falls, but he's been pretty quiet for a few years. Not sure what he's been doing lately.
